Why We Love Harrisonburg – Energy Windows LLC

Harrisonburg Historic Marker

Energy Windows LLC is based in Edinburg, Virginia which is located roughly halfway between Harrisonburg and Winchester in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Since moving to this location, we have grown fond of both cities.  We thought we would take a moment to dote on one on each of them a bit.  This week we’ll share our newfound love of Harrisonburg.

Harrisonburg is a small city of around 53,000 people which is home to a wide variety of businesses, services, and attractions, and is home to two major universities.  The history of Harrisonburg is rich and has attracted people to do business, study and to live for over two centuries.  It is truly the gem of the Shenandoah Valley.

Harrisonburg was founded in 1779 and made its name as a seat of agriculture in the farming powerhouse due to its prime positioning in the fertile Shenandoah Valley.  Especially when the community was connected to the major railroad lines in the mid-1800’s, Harrisonburg’s vital role in the business of the Valley was cemented.  Whether it was grain or poultry, it was to be found in Harrisonburg markets.

Now Harrisonburg is home to two major Universities:  James Madison University (JMU) and Eastern Mennonite University (EMU).  EMU is a private liberal arts university founded in 1917 which focuses on “peacebuilding, creation care, experiential learning, and cross-cultural engagement.”  EMU has a student population of around 1600 students.  JMU is a larger public university established in 1908 serving about 22,600 students.

We here at Energy Windows LLC love living so near such a wonderful city with tons of great restaurants and great shopping.  We also just love driving through town and looking at the architecture–both historical and modern.  We love the people of Harrisonburg and hope to continue to serve them through our business and other activities for a long time.
